Overview

At Gracie Barra we strive to help students get the most out of their training. For students with consistency and dedication, our programs will become a life-style and students can readily enjoy all the benefits of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or the "Gentle Art", Muay Thai Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and Fitness. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and chokeholds also found in numerous other arts with or without ground fighting emphasis. The premise is that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which are somewhat negated when grappling on the ground.

If Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of your interests we have the most credible lineage outside of Brazil. After a life of martial arts and practicing BJJ since 1996, Professor Chad Robichaux “Robo” was promoted in Brazil to the rank of Black Belt and is a direct black belt of the legendary Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and Multiple Time World Champion, Professor David Vieira Da Silva. In addition Professor Marcelo "Arroz" Da Souza 1st degree Black Belt can be found coaching on the mat every day. Prof. Souza started teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the legendary Gracie Barra School in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Then he decided to travel outside Brazil and share the great knowledge that he acquired over the years teaching beside great mentors such as Professor Marcio Feitosa and Master Carlos Gracie Jr. himself and now carries that knowledge to us here in The Woodlands. Our BJJ Program is recognized and run per the guidelines of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), and the Gracie Barra Association based on a progressive 3 level program: Fundamental, Advanced, and Black Belt; additionally we have a WOMEN’S ONLY BJJ Program.
*Keep in mind BJJ is the Ultimate Self-Defense Art.

If Muay Thai is your interest we have the most incredible Coach and team available. Daniel Kim, our Head Muay Thai Coach is currently the USMF and MTIA Champion and 2008 Muay Thai World Cup Bronze Medalist. He leads the Patumwaden Competition Team, which started in Bangkok, Thailand in the ‘60s and was brought to Houston, TX in 1985 by Kru Pong. Whether for a fitness hobby or competition on our Muay Thai team, we can help you meet your individual goals. Our Muay Thai program is also run on a progressive 3 level program based on skill and interest: Levels I, II, & III.

Now, if you’re interested in going for it all, and the sport of Mixed Martial Arts is your dream… we have a slot on Team Robo MMA waiting for you to earn. Through sweet and grit you can earn a spot on the team and get in the cage and fight the scientific art of MMA. Participation on the MMA Team at Gracie Barra requires you to complete the Fundamental BJJ program and Level I Muay Thai program having the skills and “Arts” to “Mix” and have a complete “Mixed Martial Arts” game!

While not a Martial Art, our Fight-Fit program will do nothing less than supercede your individual and optimal level of fitness through a combination of exercise routines and techniques developed to condition fighters for optimal performance and endurance. These unconventional methods of fitness have not only prepared our athletes for competition, but changed many of our student’s lives in the area of health, physical appearance, and mental well being. Feel better about yourself and get enrolled in Gracie Barra’s Fight Fit Program.
